When I heard this song for the first time, I didn't know the meaning of it and never though I would live something like this.

This song was written by the lead singer Joel Pott and it is about his daughter, after she suffered a seizure shortly after being born. The 'wires going in, wires comin out of your skin' are the tubes and wires that were used to keep the baby alive. The 'plastic box' is the incubator used.

The part 'looking at you now, you would never know' indicates that fortunately she was fine. 

I didn't have that happy ending and I know a lot of people go through it so... you are not alone! 

I read something the other day, from a woman who went through exactly the same as I did "your baby sacrificed her life for you to recover yours". Therefore, I will do everything to honor the mission she has in my life.
